ABOUT THE CONCERT
With appearances on The Daily Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live, The Late Show with David Letterman and an NPR Tiny Desk concert under their collective belts, this rollicking 10-piece ensemble fronted by charismatic singer Kam Franklin brings a mix of old school rock, country, Southern hip-hop, reggae, and Muscle Shoals-era R&B into a fresh approach they call Gulf Coast Soul. Formed by keyboardist Patrick Kelly and bassist Adam Castaneda in their native Houston only six years ago, the band has exploded onto the national and international scene through tours with Lake Street Dive and Galactic. Following the success of the 2014 EP Make Some Room and their established reputation as a dynamic live act, Esquire magazine featured them as one of the top bands to see at the 2015 South By Southwest festival. In 2016 the group released their debut full-length album on Rhyme & Reason Records, The Suffers, which melds their vintage soul sound with jazz-influenced horn arrangements and gospel-tinged vocals. Billboard listed The Suffers as one of their “Top 10 Anticipated Rock & Alternative Albums,” and to hear the band live is to understand why BuzzFeed listed them among their “25 New Artists You Need in Your Life.”
