About this concert:
SFJAZZ’s all-star resident ensemble and composer’s workshop represents what’s happening now in jazz. Performing new works and fresh arrangements of classic material, the band embodies the organization’s commitment to jazz as a living art form. For this world premiere collaboration, they are joined onstage by GRAMMY-winning vocalist Kurt Elling.
More than jazz’s renaissance man, vocalist Elling is a rising tide of creativity. In the three decades since his Blue Note Records debut, the double GRAMMY Award-winner has earned just about every honor available to modern jazz singers. Crowned “Male Vocalist of the Year” in the DownBeat Critics Poll for more than a dozen consecutive years, he’s an improviser of astonishing power and inventiveness.
