SFJAZZ Collective tenor saxophonist David Sánchez chose a varied list of repertoire favorites, including originals from Miguel Zenón and himself as well as arrangements of McCoy Tyner and Wayne Shorter classics by founding pianist Renee Rosnes, and more.
A native of Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, tenor saxophonist David Sánchez is a 2004 GRAMMY winner, a six-time nominee, and recipient of a Chamber Music America grant. He has recorded ten albums, co-led the Ninety Miles project with Stefon Harris and Christian Scott, and performed with a roster of greats including Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Haden, Roy Haynes, Kenny Barron, and Eddie Palmieri. His newest project, 2019’s GRAMMY-nominated Ropeadope Records release Carib, traces the musical connections between West Africa, Haiti, and Puerto Rico. Sánchez joined the SFJAZZ Collective in 2012.
