Showing a lifetime’s worth of warmth and humor, jazz icons Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter come together again via Zoom on the occasion of the fifth and final Fridays at Five Wayne Shorter Celebration concert, joined this time by Wayne’s quartet including pianist Danilo Pérez, bassist John Patitucci, drummer Brian Blade, and guest drummer for this concert, the masterful Terri Lyne Carrington.
Herbie and Wayne discuss the priceless advice, both heard and misheard, given to them by their former bandleader and mentor Miles Davis while members of his epochal “second great quintet” of the 1960s, and the group reminisces about the historic jazz venues of Boston. Finally, Herbie compares the otherworldly playing of Wayne’s band to a beloved Bay Area house of mystery, where a visitor never knows what is coming next.
