In this interview between pianist Kenny Barron and Terence Blanchard, Barron reflects on the pianists who have most influenced his career, including Tommy Flanagan, McCoy Tyner, Ahmad Jamal, Abdullah Ibrahim, and more. Barron also acknowledges the creative freedom he found in the world of free jazz. Blanchard also asks Barron for the origin of his iconic band “Sphere,” which was initially formed to support Thelonious Monk but quickly evolved into a creative force of its own. An SFJAZZ Resident Artistic Director, Kenny Barron returns to SFJAZZ presenting four projects over four nights on April 10-13.
