“One of the most exciting emerging artists in Latin music” (LA Weekly), the 2015 Latin GRAMMY winner for Best New Artist brings their singular hybrid that merges the simmering French jazz manouche style of Django Reinhardt with dance-inspiring Latin American rhythms and myriad modern influences.
Formed over a decade ago in Bogotá, Colombia by singer Catalina García and guitarist Santiago Prieto, the band has cultivated a fervent following by blending the spirit of 1930s music with the joyous and sophisticated sounds of contemporary Latin American pop — a worldly, boundary-blurring approach places them in the same echelon as contemporaries Natalia Lafourcade, Troker, Carla Morrison, and Bomba Estereo.
García’s effervescent vocals and Prieto’s beguiling instrumental style match perfectly with the group’s uniquely colorful visual approach that defines their surreal album art, video presence, and concert look.
The band has released four albums including their self-released 2012 debut Hecho a Mano, the Latin GRAMMY-winning 2015 follow-up Caja De Musica, 2019’s Encanto Tropical, and their newest Sony Music session, the 2023 Latin GRAMMY-winning Bolero Apocalíptico. Monsieur Periné returns with the hope and joy we need now more than ever.
