About this Clip:
Christian McBride New Jawn perform McBride's original composition "Via Mwandishi," for the West Coast debut of McBride’s exciting “New Jawn” project — a quartet named in reference to the uniquely Philadelphian slang for a person, place, or thing imbued with undeniable hipness and soul. Full concert available On-Demand through September 30.
Echoing the two horns/no piano lineup of the classic Ornette Coleman quartet, New Jawn is comprised of some of the most forward-thinking jazz artists on today’s scene including trumpeter Josh Evans, saxophonist Marcus Strickland, and longtime Jason Moran Bandwagon drummer Nasheet Waits. They performed music from their triple GRAMMY-nominated 2018 Mack Avenue release Christian McBride’s New Jawn.
